Social Justice reflection

Image
My social justice topic is anti-homelessness because it is a topic I'm pretty passionate about. I chose this topic since its a common topic of discussion with my brother and we can talk for hours about it. I used this to share about statistics of homeless people and a story on someone experiencing homelessness. I think that this should be talked about more instead of letting it be shoved under the rug.

Call to Action poster

Image
My call to action posters are on poverty to send a message about how there are people who struggle to find anything while other people can have whatever they please. I want to push people to advocate for those who don't have as much as we do. Bringing attention to this cause can help bring to awareness how big a gap there is between classes.

how posters work

Image
This poster overwhelms the eye because of how it's shaped. The words are squished together and it looks like a wave. It's a little hard to read.  This poster creates a central image with the glass being enlarged to be the main focus. The title and background make the glass seem more important. The poster makes eye contact with the woman winking towards the viewer. It can attract the viewers attention too because they made eye contact. This poster manipulates scale because King Kong is huge compared to the text above him. The text seems to be less important as well with a much bigger emphasis on King Kong's size. This poster overlaps the text over the face. The text goes over the eyes and covers them.

Data Visualization Inspiration

Image
 1. The Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum Designing Peace Exhibition combines visual installations, symbolic objects, and interactive displays to explore design’s role in fostering peace. Through imagery like the Teeter-Totter Wall that spans a border fence and giant text installations such as “ACT NOW,” the exhibition visually dramatizes how design interventions can challenge conflict and spark dialogue. By juxtaposing vivid photos, maps, and objects from global projects, it translates complex issues about division, reconciliation, and collective humanity into accessible, emotionally resonant visual experiences that engage viewers beyond text. 2. Seeing how Designing Peace uses strong visual metaphors inspires a data visualization approach that foregrounds narrative and emotion as much as numerical insight. Instead of only showing numbers or charts, I would think about how imagery can make data feel tangible — for example, using everyday objects or relatable scenes to rep...

Cooper Hewitt Reflection

I think the reason for this trip was to show us how architecture design can look like. A few key images from the trip that I remember were the wool cowboy hats and the lion head. The structure my team made was a room that was both cozy and entertaining because I want to have an environment that can provide people with ways to entertain themselves and also be calming. This trip can be useful for a design students because it can show them other options other than graphic design.

For my design I will be using work from and taking inspo from sarah ross

Social justice

I chose anti-homelessness architecture/hostile architecture. I like this topic because I find that this is an important topic that should be addressed instead of overlooked by so many people. It's a topic that I love to discuss with my brother who is also passionate about how its impactful to not only homeless people but also everyday life for everyone. I'd like to provide solutions and alternatives to try to make anti-homelessness less of an issue for everyone and provide homeless people with better spaces and benefits to help them start their lives over again.

Communication Design

Communications design is a mix of design and info-development with the focus on how the media communicates with people. It is also about the aesthetic and message of designs in the media. Communications design is for information, entertainment,  sales, and marketing. channels for communications of design are verbal, written, non-verbal, traditional, and digital platforms.

College fair and career fair experience

I liked the collefge fair because of the information all the booths provided about their respected schools. I didn't pay too much attention to tuitions because i was only interested in the programs provided. I would rather commute than dorm because commuting is a much more affordable option for me and I would just rather be home. I don't think I had any top 5 or favorite colleges because I wasn't interested too much in going to any of the schools there.

How do designers find their first jobs?

Job One:  Adobe Express Figma Illustrator Indesign Photoshop  Job Two:  Agile Confluence JIRA Looker Job Three:  Adobe Creative Suite Figma What these jobs have in common is they require you to be proficient in Figma and Adobe. My skills would be being proficient in adobe so I can qualify for that requirement.

Refining my logo

Image
My favorite design is the Brush Script MT Italic (Design 12) because it looks the cleanest and I like how the type flows with each letter. I like that design because it reminds me of a paintbrush that flowed across a canvas.

Digi logo

Image
For my designs I wanted them to feel silly and look full of air in a way. I thought that to make it mix and match I would change the type for each letter. The type changes in 2 and 3 I feel are the most accurate to the pencil roughs which I like. The last one Cartoon Chaos seems very childish which was the goal but the type wasn't what I wanted, it is close to the pencil rough though. I like that they turned out close to the pencil roughs.

Pencil Logo Rough

Image
My logo roughs were designed to look unique and special. They were given lots of curves and some were inflated. The designs were meant to look as fluid as possible, flowing in any direction. My favorite has to be the first S.A.N.D that I drew because of the Swan like S. The inspiration for the Kadi Ent. was my middle name Kadima and the joy I get from entertaining people. Cartoon Chaos is taken from my love of saturday morning cartoons. B.O.B.O means Be the one Better than Others because I feel that everyone should want to be better in anything they love.

This could be my brand name

1. B.O.B.O This brand mean Be the One Better than Others. I thought of it since I feel like people should always strive to be the best in whatever they like. 2. Kadi Entertainment I thought of this because my middle name is Kadima and I like to entertain people. 3. S.A.N.D I thought of this because of a meme that just popped into my head. 3. DK Debris I thought of this because my first and middle initial is DK and I just thought of something for a cleaning company. 4. DK Designs I thought about this name because we are in a class for graphic design. 5. D&Co I thought about this because it was something I took inspo from a classmate. 6. Cartoony Chaos This came to mind since I enjoy Saturday morning cartoons. 7. Daniel's Dinner I was thinking of a restaurant in my name. 8. Daniel's Drinks I thought about a drink brand after myself. 9. DVD  I thought about this because my full initials are DVD. 10. Daniel Van-Dien I thought this because my full name is this.

Design Portfolio Research

1.Lauren Hom- https://www.homsweethom.com/work This site attracts me because of the way it feels so comforting. The look of it is like a warm cozy home in a way. The colors are warm and the designs are interesting. I like the way the letters pop on some of the designs and the objects are nice. 2. Craig Black-  https://craig.black/ THis site was attracting to me because the designs felt different. Off of the first look alone it had a very distinct feeling to it. The colors flow on everything and it looks like a river of colors. It reminds me of paint dripping down a wall. I like how distinct the designs are and how they look. 3. Naomi Umezu- https://www.behance.net/gallery/94853223/Portfolio-2020 The site caught my interest because of the cartoonish and animated designs they are something I am familiar with and enjoy a lot. The round shapes that are frequently used in the designs is also something that I like because round objects are usually fun. I also like the layout since ...

Senior Accountability

For my senior year I plan on focusing on what I want to do after I graduate. I want to pursue either plumbing or electrician. I am not interested in pursuing a college education since its not something I see fit for myself. To stay on track with my goals I plan on doing even better than I have in any of my years in high school by staying on top of all my work to the best I can if not better.  I want to do plumbing or electrician because  I want to have a career that can help me provide for myself and my family. Alongside that goal is to get a cat for myself because I'm not allowed to have one with my grandma and my mom doesn't really like pets like that. I want to better myself physically and mentally before graduation, not sure how I would do that but it is something I want to achieve. I also want to try to get to know more of the school staff through other people or by myself. My goals aren't exactly refined but that is my plan to do so this year and to ...

BRanded Print ad reflection

  - did your logo do well in the ad? I think my logo did well in the ad because I had taken ideas from real life like scattering stars all over the keyboard and adding planets. - did your brand research help in the making of this ad? I think my brand research didn't help because I didn't reference it while making the ad. I  - do you see your brand values in the ad? I do see my brand values in the ad, I can see it in the design of the keyboard and in the slogan. - would you change your logo now? I wouldn't change my logo because it differentiates my brand from others and it separates my style from competitors.

My Brand Initial Ideas

 1. My industry is electronics 2. Creating equipment for gaming to provide the best experience for the user 3. The motivation for my brand is to make controllers and keyboards to help elevate a person's experience and make them affordable to all people of different backgrounds. 4. Three perception are that we are caring to the minority, faithful to our work, and welcoming to our peers. 5. Three values for my brand are high quality production, cheap equipment, and kind service. 6. The style of my brand is early modern style graphic design. 7. I want people to know that care equals quality and we care about our work. 8. The demographic to my target audience is console gamers as they have less catering towards them. 9. My target audience would experience my brand on any social media platform like Instagram, TikTok, and Twitter. 10. I chose this idea because I realized that console players don't have the ability to compete with keyboard players since they lack the amount of resourc...

Non-Destructive Image Adjustments

Image
I learned how to change the way the lighting of the image changes when you edit the vibrance of it and how you can change the saturation to match the saturation or just however you want it. I learned how changing the Hue of an image can change the saturation on the image on a specific color in the image and the lightness of the image. I learned how to change the Hue and Saturation on an image to either make it brighter or darker.  The other images wouldn't upload but for those I learned to edit the hue and saturation as I did with the flowers and the image I ad selected for myself to edit I learned to mix and match the image adjustments to make an image fit more to how you like it.
